The Tire: an Irish Invention

Now is the time to celebrate our Irish roots!
Why not celebrate St-Patrick’s Day by thanking the inventor of the tire?

Indeed, the automobile tire was invented by John Boyd Dunlop.

Veterinarian by profession, he had the idea to surround the wooden wheels of his son’s bike with air-filled rubber bands. Thus were born the rubber tires!
His invention quickly raged on, especially for bicycles and cars.

It is the Michelin brothers who, subsequently, improved the strength and rigidity of tires for large-scale commercialization.
